Secretary Turned It GirlI purchased this book in print and the cover is very well done! The book itself is a light, romance but also about friendship and life changing moments. I loved the way that the character, Sophie, was light and fun but also had a more in-depth side to her. Sophie is unhappy with her current job because her boss doesn't appreciate her and passes her over for promotions and finally she has had enough. Her life is pretty typical, in the fact that she is single, living only with her cat, Truffles and watches Netflix and drinks wine. (I can definitely relate!) On the advice of her girlfriends, she decides to go on a Five day cruise to just relax and get some clarity on her life. The cruise ends up being filled with surprises and when Sophie arrives back home, her life starts changing for the better. I love this book because it gives us all hope that no matter what a mess our life may seem, it can change for the better! I definitely recommend this book, especially if you like ChickLit or Contemporary Romances.

Secretary Turned It Girl Melinda Pollard 9781520455716 Books Reviews
Very light and feel-good read. I enjoyed it.
I just finished Secretary Turned It Girl. The main character Sophie is at a crossroads. She’s slaving away at a law firm working for a boss that doesn’t appreciate her. Heck, even the gal who waters the plants is making more than her. Sophie dreams of a career in social media. She is ready to meet the man of her dreams and write her next chapter.
As a reader I enjoyed tagging along in first class, wearing Tory Burch sandals and sipping on Chardonnay in this girlie adventure. Mani-pedi anyone? Toward the end, I felt that her charmed life came a bit too easy. I would have liked to have seen a few more obstacles thrown her way before she achieves her It girl status, but it’s a fun read... something you could enjoy on a road trip or reading poolside.
The main character of this frivolous little tale is Sophie, a young single woman working a dead-end job. Sophie is just like you and nothing like you at the same time. She isn't really sure where her life is going, doesn't really like her job, and is recovering from heartbreak. Her odd combination of confidence and self-doubt will connect with every reader on some level.
At every turn of this story, Sophie's fate is the fantasy of all readers. Despite her unhappy job, she has padded her life with material luxuries that seem almost beyond her means. The true poverty and struggle in Sophie's life is really behind her. The current conflict over staying with a boss who does not appreciate her or striking out in a new and unknown direction is at a more metaphysical level, although Sophie often uses her past experiences to justify her recent predicament. (And which of us doesn't do that??)
My main concern for Sophie is her caffeine addiction. I wondered throughout the book if it would cause her financial ruin before or after her health failed because of it. She also eats enough take-out for me to wonder if her apartment was equipped with a kitchen. In the end, the pieces fall into place for Sophie rather nicely, and she will no doubt be the envy of all readers.
This book does everything chic lit is meant for. There are ample discussions of shopping and fashion, punctuated by hair and make-up mentions. It also includes guest appearances by handsome men, romantic dinners, and an unrealistic display of opulence. The perfect beach read!
I really don't know how to tell you what I just read. It felt like I was reading someones diary, and not in a good way.
Let's start from the beginning. Sophie is in a job that has turned into a nightmare for her. Her boss is indifferent and the office manager, Susan is a cranky older woman. Sophie has a lot of things to think about, whether to stay in a job she dislikes and has no respect given to her. Personally, I would have left long ago, but she takes her allotted holiday time to go on a cruise. Whilst on the cruise, she decides to quit her job which is too toxic for her. Once she returns home, she is offered a job from her friend Tom to come work for him. It's a dream come true for her, and to top it off, she falls for Tom and he proposes. The End.
The love story of these two didn't have any depth. She is friends with Tom for a while and nothing progresses and with in a matter of weeks, they are together, he offers her a job and proposes. There was no lead up, no angst and pretty much nothing with substance at all. She actually came across as a very self absorbed and materialistic gold digger. Regardless, the whole cruise story line felt out of place and pointless. I didn't understand how it affected the story. And I have no clue as to why it has this title. What's an It Girl? Someone who gets engaged, someone who gets a great job? Someone who lands a millionaire? All very confusing indeed. I am sorry to say, this book was not for me.
*I received a copy for an honest review.

Easy to relate to the character.Realistic, detailed, and stylishly offered.A reflection about the vulnerability of the strong women, and their straggles for success and happiness.
This is a great book that will surely draw you in. It's very light-hearted. Sophie's character was well-written and she's the kind of girl that probably every young single woman today could relate to. The plot was also very well-crafted. A bit like your typical chick lit but it also brings something new to the table. This is a book all chick lit lovers should check out.
